Special Focus On: Children’s Literacy.
Reading and writing opens a child up to a world of new experiences, knowledge and imagination. It allows them to discover their favourite novel, their favourite comic book, their favourite subject in school, to tell their own stories and share their own ideas. However, literacy does not just happen. It begins early in a child's life through the development of the fundamental skills: pronouncing and understanding sounds and the alphabet (phonological awareness), understanding what a book is and how writing works, and exploring writing as a means to express oneself and understand others. At The Speech Therapy Centres of Canada, our speech-language pathologists work with young children to help them develop their literacy skills in fun and creative ways. We use their imagination and their interests as a way to open the door of literacy in front of them. We also work hand-in-hand with their parents and teachers to show them ways to increase a child's literacy skills in engaging ways, inspiring that child's love of language, writing, and books. Development of literacy in early age is one of the most crucial steps in a child's education and future success. If you feel that your child can benefit from our literacy programs, we encourage you to CONTACT US to set up an assessment.
